Abstract
  • My thesis is concerned with how nurturing can be provided through integrating the senses into the architecture of an orphanage, by inviting the natural outdoor setting indoors, to inform the design. The design of a space that allows sensory stimulation and encounters with the environment is important to the well-being and healthy upbringing of children. An environment that encourages physical activity, playful sensory exploration, and a seamless relationship with the natural environment will be carefully integrated towards the design of a children's home in Santiniketan, India.
