Abstract:
"Student City" is a campus district located in the capital of Albania, Tirana. The rich historical background of Tirana is reflected in the diverse architecture of the urban fabric. Official sources proclaim the construction of the first buildings of the campus during the 1940s Communist regime. However, due to lenient laws and active corruption, many of the old historic buildings and sites have been demolished in the interest of the business-developer elite, resulting in the erasure of a significant part of the country's identity. This thesis explores how architecture contributes to the improvement of the educational system through the redesign of the new "Student City." The new proposal aims to turn "Student City" into the central educational hub in the city and a pivotal draw for keeping youth at home in Tirana's universities while navigating the realities of the country's troubled economy and the changes that now exist.
