Abstract
  • Health, an incredibly personal and multifaceted component of human experience. Our places of health are continuously informed by evolving practices of care. This thesis explores the introduction of psychedelic treatments into the realm of health care design by learning from plural epistemologies of psychedelic practice. Psychedelic Architectures, the places of psychedelic practice, are incredibly diverse health spaces guided by the intentions of psychedelic consumption. By studying the material, spatial and cultural productions of psychedelic health we arrive at syncretic re-envisioning of psychiatric practices and spaces. This thesis is interested in positioning architecture within the discourse of psychedelic health practices becoming adopted in the 21st century. How has architecture been employed in these places of psychedelic health? What are the connections between positive psychedelic experiences and therapeutic psychedelic settings? The resulting work accentuates the intuitive and ingenious uses of space for the purposes of psychedelic assisted therapy, spirituality, and recreation.
